About HDSA Centers of Excellence

HDSA Centers of Excellence provide a multidisciplinary team approach to Huntington’s disease care. Patients benefit from expert neurologists, psychiatrists, social workers, therapists, counselors and other professionals who have extensive experience working with families affected by HD and who work collaboratively to help families plan the best HD care program throughout the course of the disease. The requirements for HDSA Centers of Excellence program, as well as the application and reporting process, can be found in the 2023 HDSA COE Program Description.

Letters of Intent

If you were designated a Level 1 or Level 2 HDSA Center of Excellence in 2021 or 2022 and you are submitting a Progress Report to maintain your current designation level, then your Letter of Intent has been completed automatically with information from your 2022 COE program submission. In the event you would like to review or make changes to your LOI, you may do so by logging into the application portal and clicking "All" under "My Applications" in the lefthand toolbar. 

If you were designated a Level 3 HDSA Center of Excellence in 2022, are a Level 1 or Level 2 HDSA Center of Excellence seeking to renew your three-year designation, or are an existing HDSA Center of Excellence applying for designation at a new level, please complete your Letter of Intent here. You will be required to submit an Application for 2023.

If you were not designated as an HDSA Center of Excellence in 2022, begin a new LOI here. 

Those approved to move forward in the 2023 HDSA Center of Excellence designation process will be notified no later than September 23^rd, 2022 and given online access to the application form by September 30^th.  

The deadline to complete the LOI is September 16^th, 2022 at 5pm EDT.  

***This year, HDSA will only be accepting letters of intent from

• Clinics that were not HDSA Centers of Excellence in 2022 and
  • are located more than 150 miles from an existing HDSA Center of Excellence.  Click here to search a map of existing Centers of Excellence OR

  • are located in a state without an HDSA Center of Excellence OR

  • serve a different insured HD population within the same state.

  • These sites must complete an application.

• Current HDSA Centers of Excellence that are seeking re-designation for 2023. These sites must complete an application. 

• Current HDSA Centers of Excellence that were designated in 2021 or 2022. These sites must complete a Progress Report for 2022.

Applications and Progress Reports

Full online applications and progress reports are due by November 18^th, 2022 at 5 PM EDT.

HDSA's Center Programs and Education Advisory Committee will review applications and progress reports and 2023 HDSA Centers of Excellence will be designated by early February, 2023 and are retroactive to January 1, 2023. 

Applications and Progress Reports will involve describing the following:

• General administrative information about your HD Clinic
• Information about your patient base and how your clinic operates
• Specialties offered and what percentage of patients use them
• Social services provided and relationship with Long-Term Care facilites
• Research studies and accreditations
• Genetic testing program
• Professional and family education programs
• Staff and advisorship
• Budget
• Regional partnership information (if applicable)
